Protest Another Boat’s Rating

If you believe that one of your competitors has a rating that is inaccurate, or if you feel that one of your competitors is racing with boat equipment not outlined on their rating certificate, then you might consider filing a request for a rating review.

There are two ways to file a request for a rating review.  First, you can do so anonymously, and it takes a total of THREE anonymous protests before a boat will be reviewed in this way.  Second, you can protest directly, by giving us your information as well as information about the boat your’re protesting.  Just a single protest made this way will bring the boat in question up for review with the Regional Board, but you should plan on attending that board meeting either in person remotely.

Anonymous Request for Review

The Anonymous Rating Review Request allows Current Members the ability to anonymously submit a request to have another member’s boat reviewed. In order for a Member boat to be anonymously recommended for review, the following criteria must be met:

  1. A minimum of 3 requests must be made within a calendar year.
  2. The requests can only be made by Current Members.
  3. The 3 requests must come from different Current Members.

Use the form below to submit a request for a rating review anonymously.  On this form, you will be asked for your Sail Number. The reason for the request to establish that you are a current member of PHRF of Southern California. Your identity will not be published outside of the closed Regional meetings. You will be asked if your request is for a specific area, if the protest is for all three ratings, and what you think the more fair rating for the boat should be. When you submit your request, an email will be sent to you at the address on file with PHRF of Southern California. You must respond to that email within 24 hours to confirm that the request is valid.

Public Request for Review

The process of requesting a rating review for a competitor’s boat is much the same as if you were requesting a rating review for your own boat.  Please download and complete the Request for Rating Review form below and email it to the Fleet Secretary.  Once you submit your Request for Rating Review, the Fleet Secretary will be in touch with you to discuss any missing information and scheduling the review at one of the Regional meetings, held most months.  There is generally a waitlist of boats to be reviewed.

NOTE: This is an Adobe Acrobat fillable form that you can complete from a desktop computer or laptop.  This form will not be fillable from a phone or older pad devices.  If you can’t fill in the form digitally then print out the form, fill it out by hand, scan the completed form, and email it to the Fleet Secretary.
